This diecast model Porsche 904 GTS (1964) is Green and features working steering, suspension, wheels and also opening bonnet, boot with engine, doors.
Although it was officially called Carrera GTS, the internal name was 904 and it opened up a new chapter in Porsche's sports car history. The car was designed by Ferdinand Alexander (nicknamed “Butzi”) Porsche and technology wise the car was ahead of its times and a pioneer for later racing car standards. It was built out of steel and fibre glass, it was light weight and had a small face surface. It was the first Porsche with a fibre glass body and in order to participate in the GT series, 100 street legal units had to be built. Later on 20 cars were added, of which 16 were assembled; the rest was used for spare parts.
The two seated mid engine Coupe had a 4 cylinder engine of the Carrera 2, which was good for 180 horse power. The frame consisted of the two main chassis beams arrayed in a box section and was glued to the fibre glass chassis. Since the seats were fixed to the body, the steering wheel and pedals could be moved in the longitudinal direction. The 904 GTS achieved its first great victories at the 1964 Targa Florio and the Daytona 24 hour race in the same year. © www.porsche.com
