This diecast model Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 Coupe (1970) is Silver and features working wheels.
The Mercedes-Benz W111 was the first luxury class model of the Heckflosse family by Mercedes Benz and carries the nickname “big fin”. Under the model range W111 and W112, Mercedes-Benz produced four door saloons as well as coupés and convertibles, which had flatter bodies and more round fins. The W111 coupé and convertible shared the same technology with the 220 SE saloon. In comparison to its predecessor, the coupé is based on the same frame as the saloon and therefore it is a fully fledged four seater. Coupé and saloon additionally had many things in common stylistically, but still not a single body shell part could be used for the coupé or cabriolet. For the coupés and convertible Mercedes-Benz needed to hand make four times more parts as for the saloon. These C model Mercedes cars were the last ones, which were widely made by hand, resulting in nearly double the price for a coupé or convertible in comparison to the saloon. From 1965 onwards the 250 SE Coupé C cars were equipped with the 150 hp engines of the W108/109. They received 14 inch rims and larger brake discs, just like the 3 litre models of the 108 luxury class. In 1967 Mercedes-Benz released a new 2.8 litre engine with 160 hp. As a result the new W111 was called 280 SEC. There were also some little changes to the interior. For example the instrument housing was covered in leather and the heating knobs with plastic instead of chrome. In 1969 the W111 received an externally visible facelift, most notably in the front portion, because of a flatter hood and grille and along also came a 3.5 litre V8 engine with 200 hp. The models are differentiated by the labels “high cooler” and “low cooler”. The 280 SE coupé 3.5 is the most wanted car out of the production series.
