This diecast model McLaren F1 (1994) is Orange and features working steering, suspension, wheels and also opening bonnet, boot with engine, doors.
The idea for what might be the most perfect car of all time was developed while having to wait at the Linate Airport in Milano, Italy in September of 1988. McLaren Boss Ron Dennis, his partner Mansour Ojjeh, as well as formula one constructors Gordon Murray and Creighton Brown were stuck for a few hours and spent their time thinking about a street legal car, that would be as close to the formula one as possible in terms of driving characteristics.
The development of the McLaren F1, as the project was called, took six years, in which many different concepts were designed and scrapped, until finally a car was created that was outstanding in every single detail. The centrally arranged and F1 typical driver’s seat, the monocoque fully made out of carbon fibre, as well as the BMW 6 litre V12 engine, the shaped wheel suspensions out of airplane aluminium, the sideway arranged trunks and the processing of all other parts made the whole project and the materials used one of a kind. Due to the fact that McLaren started a partnership with Mercedes-Benz to initiate the development of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, the production of the McLaren F1 was stopped in 1998 after only 64 cars had been completed.
The few people that had the chance to drive the F1 confirmed the fact that until today no other street car has been developed that comes as close to a formula one car in terms driving dynamics as the McLaren F1.
