In 1970, the muscle car phenomenon was in full swing and almost every major automobile manufacturer had something to offer that fit the “wolf in sheep’s clothing” profile. Yet one car emerged from the pack — and now it’s yours in the form of this sensational scale replica. Hand-assembled, hand-painted, hand-finished, this must-have precision collectible is fully loaded with a wide array of true-to-life operating features. The doors, hood and trunk open and close, the seats tilt back and forth, the steering wheel engages the front wheels, the drive shaft actually rotates and the suspension is fully functional. In short, it’s engineered with all those features the knowledgeable collector demands in a precision model.
The Pony Car, introduced in 1964, set the standard for the long hood and short deck look that most muscle cars adopted as time went on. By 1970, there were a lot of powerful cars around but even so, the Dodge Challenger stood out as a winner from the first. It was a thing of beauty from start to finish, from its classic coke-bottle shape and sleek lines to the white-letter tires. Challenger used the same uni-body platform as Plymouth®’s new Barracuda, but its wheelbase was two inches longer to provide slightly more rear-seat room. It was available as a hardtop or convertible, with performance versions wearing the familiar R/T label.
With the coveted 426 Hemi® engine and 4-speed manual transmission, the Challenger R/T was and still is a highly prized addition to any muscle car collection.
All R/Ts were fitted with beefed-up suspensions, and the 426 Hemi® received 15-inch, 60-series tires. Optional equipment included power steering and front disc brakes.
Now, Franklin Mint Precision Models presents the 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 426 Hemi® as a finely detailed die-cast model, sure to thrill even the most discerning collectors.
